Sign Up and Check Us Out

As students prepare to head back to school, there is one essential school supply that requires no shopping and doesn't cost a penny – a library card.

This September, the Atlantic County Library System is joining with the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide in promoting Library Card Sign-up Month. We encourage parents, caregivers and students to obtain a free library card that will save them money while reaping rewards in academic achievement and lifelong learning. A library card provides endless opportunities to transform the school year, lives, and the community through education.

Whether it’s providing free access to books, programs, educational apps, homework help, digital media, or 24/7 online databases and resources, a library card is one of the most cost effective back-to-school supplies. Libraries play an important role in the education and development of children. Studies show children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning.

For more information about how to sign up for a library card, please visit any of our branches in person or read this.

Best of the Best

Congratulations to our Galloway Township and Egg Harbor Township branches who shared the gold for Best Library in the 2018 Best of the Press awards. Thank you to the patrons who voted for us and the staff who have helped make it possible. We think all of our branches are winners!

We Have Fax

The Atlantic County Library System is excited to now offer fax services via FaxScan24 Self-Service Kiosks. These kiosks are currently located at our Egg Harbor Township, Galloway Township, Mays Landing, and Ventnor branches. Our remaining branches are expected have their own public fax machines available soon.

FaxScan24 public fax machines are user-friendly with clear simple instructions as well as voice prompting assistance. Payment for the service is made with a credit or debit card. From the website www.faxscan24.com, users can check the status of their fax, resend the fax for free, and can send the document to their email at no extra charge.

Accept the Challenge!

The Atlantic County Library System is excited to launch the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge. The goal of this program is to promote literacy and instill a life-long love of reading in your child. The concept is simple: read 1,000 books (any books) to your infant, toddler, or preschooler before she/he starts kindergarten.

How it works:

  • Start: Register your child, ages 0-5, at any Atlantic County Library System branch to receive instructions and a reading log.
  • Read: Any book -- new books or repeat books. If you read just 1 book a night to your child, they will have heard approximately 365 books in one year, 730 books in two years, and 1,095 books in three years.
  • Track: Each time you read a book with your child, record it in the reading log or app. All books count, even ACLS storytime titles.
  • Celebrate: Mark each milestone. Upon completion, your child will be presented with a certificate.

For more information about the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge and reading suggestions, talk to any ACLS staff member.
