FREEDOM QUILT PROGRAM
FEBRUARY 20, 2010

The Creative Sparks program at the Noyes Museum is scheduled for Saturday, February 20, at 1:00 p.m. The free program, entitled Lincoln’s Birthday Party--What Freedom Means to Me, is open to ages 6-12. Preregistration to ensure a spot in the hands-on art class is available by calling 609-652-8848.

Families are welcome to attend the program, held in honor of Lincoln’s 201st birthday, to sing “Happy Birthday,” eat birthday cake, and paint a section for a giant paper Freedom Quilt. Participants may add their section to the quilt or take it home with them.

The Freedom Quilt is on display at Noyes Museum.

Freedom Quilt

The Freedom Quilt is made up of over 100 four-inch squares created at Atlantic County Library System programs and at Mainland High School last spring. It  is displayed in the Noyes Museum of Art’s Young Art Gallery during the month of February.

Books and posters from the Atlantic County Library System’s 2009 “We the People: Created Equal” grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities in cooperation with the American Library Association are also displayed.

The exhibit and program are a collaboration between the Noyes Museum of Art and the Atlantic County Library System. For more information, call the Outreach Services Section of the Atlantic County Library System at 609-625-2776, extension 6333 or the Noyes Museum of Art at 609-652-8848.
