Look at the Library

Thanks to a competitive grant, a generous bequest, and Atlantic County government investment, the Atlantic County Library System/Mays Landing has made lots of great improvements with more on the way.

Patrons enjoy the cafe tables as a great place to chat, use their laptops, read and enjoy a beverage or snack.

About the Grant

We benefited from a competitive grant assistance project, SWAT Team Transformation 2011, sponsored by the New Jersey State Library. SWAT provided a team of library experts who analyzed our circulation and other public areas and offered suggestions on ways to make the library more useful and user and worker-friendly. Donations from a patron helped pay for some SWAT recommendations.

A Bequest from Mr. Ed Schwarzmann

Mr. Ed Schwarzmann, a retired engineer with IBM, loved the Mays Landing library. He was a patron for many years. A cheerful man with a booming hello for all those he greeted, he was popular with many staff and library visitors. Upon his passing, Mr. Schwarzmann left a generous donation to the Atlantic County Library Foundation for the Mays Landing branch. Many of our new furnishings and upcoming improvements to the circulation and reference desks are possible because of Mr. Schwarzmann’s kindness.

Parking Improvements Help Make the Library More Convenient

Mays Landing Library Parking Improved

More Accessibility

Our new ADA-compliant handicapped parking area offers much closer access to the front door.

Improvements and More Parking at Nearby Gaskill Park

Visitors to Atlantic County’s picturesque Gaskill Park at the head of the Great Egg Harbor River in Mays Landing will find several new improvements that provide greater accessibility to the park and amenities such as picnic areas and playground facilities.

New ADA-compliant restrooms, concrete walkways, and a handicapped accessible ramp to the park’s gazebo are under construction and will be completed soon.

Gaskill Park also provides access to the Atlantic County Library System’s Mays Landing branch and is a popular spot for outdoor weddings, concerts and special events.

A new parking lot is also being added that includes 25 parking spaces, two of which are handicapped-designated.

“These improvements serve to further enhance an attractive recreation facility that is widely enjoyed by residents and visitors alike,” said County Executive Dennis Levinson.
