Civil War Era Records
As we work through the documents, we are discovering wonderful treasures - such as "mustered out" records of Atlantic County's US Civil War Veterans. This section also includes links to Civil War-era newspapers.
Civil War Mustered Out Records

To muster out means to be discharged from military service. We have a few pages from a ledger book that lists approximately 400 names of mostly Atlantic County veterans of the US Civil War. The ledger book pages list, in columns, date of muster, regiment, rank, name, city of residence, married or single, wether or not the solder had a widowed mother, date of discharge and if the solder was listed as a deserter. You can search this list by last name or view the entire list of names. The digitized records are in PDF form, and a high-speed Internet connection is suggested.
